London County Council Car No: 1: Bluebird
THE TRAMWAY MUSEUM SOCIETY Board of Management has just sent out this important announcement about LCC tram No: 1 to their members.
“The Board has recently received and considered reports upon the condition of this tramcar from the London County Council Tramways Trust (LCCTT) and from our curatorial and engineering staff.
“After full consideration it has been agreed that the LCCTT will raise funds from its supporters and other sources to meet the not inconsiderable cost of restoration of the tramcar to operational condition as London County Council No.1 ‘Bluebird’
“If the restoration cost can be raised, a full forensic survey will take place as part of the restoration and the dismantling process will be recorded with a view to maintaining a record for curatorial purposes and the production of interpretational media.
“Any significant artefacts which cannot be incorporated in the restored car will be kept for a future display showing the importance of this car in the technical and social history of the development of the modern tramcar”
The Trustees are very pleased with the news , which comes more than 80 years after No. 1 was built, and we be in touch with you during 2013 with more information and, of course, an appeal for funds. But what a splendid Christmas present!
